Dennis Kucinich Introduces Right to Know Legislation (anti-GMO)

By Dennis Kucinich

Bills Create Regulatory Framework for Genetically Engineered Organisms

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), a long-time advocate of family farmers and organic foods, today introduced H.R. 5577, The Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act, as well as supporting legislation that will provide a comprehensive regulatory framework for all Genetically Engineered (GE) plants, animals, bacteria, and other organisms.

“To ensure we can maximize benefits and minimize hazards, Congress must provide a comprehensive regulatory framework for all Genetically Engineered products. Structured as a common-sense precaution to ensure GE foods do no harm, these bills will ensure that consumers are protected, food safety measures are strengthened, farmers’ rights are better protected and biotech companies are responsible for their products,” said Kucinich.

In addition to the Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act, Kucinich introduced the Genetically Engineered Safety Act, HR 5578, which prohibits the open-air cultivation of GE pharmaceutical and industrial crops and establishes a tracking system to regulate and ensure the safety of GE pharmaceutical and industrial crops.

The third bill is the Genetically Engineered Technology Farmer Protection Act, HR 5579 which would protect farmers and ranchers that may be harmed economically by genetically engineered seeds, plants, or animals, to ensure fairness for farmers and ranchers in their dealings with biotech companies that sell GE products.

Congressman Kucinich has long been a proponent of ‘Right to Know’ legislation, and has introduced similar bills in previous sessions of Congress.

Every one of those Bills are FANTASTIC! Is there hope for our future? Is there hope for our very basic “Natural Right” of being able to choose the food that we want to eat?
God! I hope so! This is a BIG WOW!
Congressman Kucinich is actually a very rare Congressman who is thinking of the health of The People and of our country!
There is a good site that has a full map of the US, and lists how many farms are PHARMA farms! Man, it would be great if all of these could be wiped out!
Site: USC of Concerned Scientists…..go to: Food and agriculture: and impacts.
In this site it has a great article on “Edible Vaccinations”! It will make your heart flip out, and drop into your stomach!
Combating human disease: immunizations in bananas, (Yum), Potatoes ( our basic mainstay food….fries anyone?), Tomatoes…..a vegetable that we sorely need to fight cancer,
Why is it that they GM/GE all of the foods that our bodies realy need to stay healthy and fight off illness?
Here is something interesting: A treaty was actually signed by the USA TO LABEL ALL GMO FOOD! Yes, it was also signed by 130 countries! So what happened? Whoooo knows!
    Site: Concerned Scientists Association.

    BUT>>>>>>>>>then there is Bill S 510!
If this MONSTER goes through, all of these bills will be DEMOLISHED ALONG WITH OUR COUNTRY!
We will no longer be a country, but, simply a State in the United Nations!
Please, Please, contact people: Lions Club, Kawanis Club, Masons, Shriners, Cattlemen Associations, Dairey Associations, Women Organizations ….INDIANS! WHOEVER! Do you know someone who is a “Go Getter”? Please – go get them!

    • the bills look good. I agree, Allison –

never heard about the US signing that GMO labeling treaty; if you find the link, do post it. I do know at the last global conference on the issue, the US refused to ratify mandatory GMO labeling.

Ooops: forgot the year of the treaty the USA signed – to label food “GMO”: It was done in 2000.
We just have to have a label on food! Yes! to HR5577!
PBS talks about how necessary it is to “have all of the facts – both sides of the issue, to be able to make an educated decision” (I wonder about PBS sometimes). It is a must so that we are able to exercise our “Natural Rights’!
Also, I personally think that it is a good idea to be able the check if : THE PRODUCT WAS PROPERLY TESTED – ON ANIMALS!

In site: GOLDEN RICE, was never tested on animals – it was tested on CHILDREN! ADULTS!
    Have fun with that one!
