Dairy Farmer Michael Schmidt: 3 Weeks on Hunger Strike, Wants Talks With Canadian Premier McGuinty

By Good Food 4 All

Canadians: Contact your officials! (Info below)

Three weeks have passed and Canadian dairy farmer continues his hunger strike for food freedom. He has consumed only water and not even his normal daily glass of milk.  He’s lost about 30 pounds and is starting to look gaunt. He’s admitted that he is getting weaker and has had to stop working.

Mr. Schmidt wants to meet with Canadian Premier Dalton McGuinty to start a dialog on food freedom.  Last week he posted a letter to Mr. Mc Guinty. So far, Mr. McGuinty has ignored all requests to meet with Mr. Schmidt.

Does Michael Schmidt have to die?  He states that he is willing to because he believes in the freedom of food.  Obviously, to the Canadian government he is just a fly in the ointment, a nuisance.

A reader commented on The Bovine site, Michael Schmidt’s WordPress blog, that if it’s legal to buy all sorts of raw foods:  beef, pork, chicken, sushi and raw vegetables (which we know, of late, can be contaminated with e-coli or other organisms) as well as PRODUCTS THAT ARE KNOWN TO BE HARMFUL TO HEALTH such as alcohol, tobacco and over-the-counter drugs — then WHY is it illegal for people to drink milk from a cow-share?

Read the above paragraph again.

As I said in last week’s post on this hunger strike by Mr. Schmidt, people have been trading with farmers since just about the beginning of time.   Up until the early 1900s, communities were agricultural based.  The farmer supplied the food to the surrounding areas.  Until the ‘advance’ of modern food and the system of grocery stores that we have now – our farmers were an important part of the landscape.  They still are but the face has changed to the industrialized machine.  Get big or get out!

This is all about control.  “In the public’s best interest” is a statement uttered by agencies here and in Canada.  As the “Occupy Wall Street” demonstrations are pointing out to the uninitiated of us who already know -and care- what goes on behind closed doors, this could also mean, “In the corporation’s best interest.” We all know that corporate influence is rampant in the food industry in its relations with the government.

Michael Schmidt’s cow-share program is not a national health threat.  The milk that he and others consume doesn’t go into the main food system.  It is available to only his cow share members.  This is a choice that they make.  They are not coerced, bribed, threatened or lied to.  All these people want is good, fresh unpasteurized milk because ‘factory’ milk, with its antibiotics, hormones, and even what the pastuerization process does to the milk –  makes them sick!

In that spirit of “Occupy” and for farmer Michael Schmidt — I ask EVERY ONE OF YOU WHO READS THIS BLOG:  contact the Canadian Premier.  I have provided a list below of other Canadian government officials (With thanks to Kim Hartke on Hartkeisonline),

I wrote to Mr. McGuinty. Yes, I am a U.S. citizen and what I think doesn’t matter in Canadian politics.  He doesn’t have to listen to what I say.  He does, however, have to listen to all the voices raised in support of Mr. Schmidt – and his conscience.

God Bless you, Michael Schmidt, and keep you strong and brave in this fight for ALL OF US, Canadian and American alike, for our food freedom!

  1. The new generation Governments doesn’t care about the Country and some people. They just care about elections as personal gain and protection.

The Canadian Farmers Association (if their is One), must vote Mr. M Schmidt as a representative of CFA to gain seat in Ottawa.

  2. I e-mailed Dalton. I hope that everyone will at least e-mail at least one of the others at this site. Sometimes so many e-mails becomes daunting. And then there is a rally – great, but I hope people who believe in the power of prayer will join me in this regard. Farmer Schmidt has been added to my daily prayer list. Will you add him to yours as well?

  3. When you fast on water your hunger pangs will shut off after about 3 days and you may feel weak even sick as toxins are purged. The stomach rests and the body will eat all excess materials such as excess fat, tumors, cancer etc. This feeding on the bodies excess materials can take up to as many as 30 days and is sometimes pleasent even euphoric and sometimes unpleasant but not life threatening. When this part of the fast is over the body will then start to feed on muscle and that is when you will feel hunger again. This hunger is the signal that the fast is now starvation and life threatening and you need to get nourishment. God Bless You Michael Schmidt.

It’s helpful to post this information, but you have to make it easier for people to voice their opinion. Something like this: http://ourpubliclibrary.to/ would help. Even having a sample letter to send along with all of the email addresses to copy and paste would be great. If you want support you have to make it easy, that is why sites like avaaz have been so successful.

  8. I believe this is one of the so much vital information for me. And i’m satisfied studying your article. But want to remark on few normal issues, The website style is wonderful, the articles is actually great : D. Just right activity, cheers
