Toxic botulism in animals linked to RoundUp

Dr Mercola recently interviewed Dr Don Huber, whose letter to the USDA warning that Monsanto’s RoundUp, a broad-spectrum “herbicide” that has been linked with spontaneous abortion in animals, continues to be ignored by food and environmental safety authorities. In this important hour-long discussion, Huber, a plant pathologist for over 50 years, explains how RoundUp is destroying our healthy soils by killing needed microorganisms.

Not only did his team discover a new soil pathogen, but he reports that animals are coming down with over 40 new diseases, like toxic botulism. Huber explains that before the widespread use of herbicides, pesticides and genetically modified food and feed, natural probiota would have kept Clostridium botulinum in check.

Mercola provided a full transcript and highlights some of the main points (excerpted):

Glyphosate Destroys Soil Microorganisms, which Denatures Food

Roundup Ready crops are very heavily sprayed with Roundup, and the resulting glyphosate residue cannot be removed or washed off—it actually becomes part of the plant. As a result, humans are now ingesting far more of this herbicide than we ever have before because it’s systemic through the entire plant.

Without Healthy Soils, Human Health is Decimated

According to Dr. Huber, about 20 percent of the glyphosate migrates out of the plant’s roots and into the surrounding soil. Once in the soil, the glyphosate kills beneficial soil microorganisms in the same way it kills weeds, because they have the same critical metabolic pathway. The thing we must all understand is that once you destroy the beneficial microbes in the soil, you’ve destroyed the food grown in it, because the quality of the food is almost always related to the quality of the soil, which depends on a healthy balance of microorganisms.

It is in fact the microorganisms in the soil that allow the plants to utilize the nutrients.

New “Franken-Organism” Threatens Plant-, Animal- and Human Health

A brand new micro-fungal-type organism has been identified, which has been linked to what researchers are now calling Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS). Dr. Huber was recently informed of a dairy experiencing a 70 percent miscarriage rate!

“It’s not a fungus. It’s not bacteria. It’s not a mycoplasma or a virus – [although] it’s about the same size of a small virus… They have pictures of it… You can see the interactions with it. They can now culture it. It’s self-replicating… If you have yeast, bacteria, or a fungus in the culture, this entity grows very well.”

What is known is that:

  • It’s an entirely new entity, previously unknown to science
  • It’s definitely found in genetically engineered corn and soybeans
  • It causes infertility and miscarriage in cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, and poultry

“We can anticipate with that broad spectrum of animal species, which is extremely unusual, that it will also [affect] humans,” Dr. Huber says. “We’ve seen an increasing frequency of miscarriage and a dramatic increase in infertility in human populations in just the last eight to 10 years.”

Here’s the second hour of the interview:

  1. Why is it everytime I come to this site, I get pissed off? Thanks for sharing the hard TRUTH.

  2. very hard facts but true! thanks for the article.

  3. I noticed that this article is labeled Part 1, Hour 1. Is there a part 2, hour 2? If so I would be interested in seeing it.

  4. Thanks for this important information!
Is there anything produced by Monsanto that isn’t pure evil?

  5. I’m just reading ‘The One Straw Revolution’ by Masanoba Fukuoka – a very inspiring read!

Back to nature and f**ck Monsanto! .

  6. I wish we could educate the farmers better and show them there are better alternatives than just using what they have always used, Roundup. These old-timers are stuck in their ways and just do what they have used for years and believe the salesmen. I know this firsthand because I married into a farming family. I’ve showed these articles to my husband, who is understanding to this knowledge, but it’s the old goat (his dad) that doesn’t give two s*** about what the truth is nor will change. They don’t buy Monsanto seeds for planting, but they do use Roundup for weed control. It just makes me sick, figuratively.

  7. When our symbionts are attacked humanity is attacked!

  8. So long as Monsanto has lobbying power in CON-gress the frankenfood will continue. This is what we get when trying to industrialize farming. The government should stop subsidizing big AG firms like ConAgra and ADM and instead provide funding to encourage the revival of small family farms using organic methods.

  9. At the risk of really pissing people off I find claims of “40 new diseases” and loss of all soil microbes extraordinarily suspect. I work with farmers and keep up with the literature and none of that is circulating in the bulk of the farm press. Crop residues continue to break down in the fields, hogs and poultry fed almost exclusively GMO crops continue to make it to market and activists continue to be obsessed with Monsanto. Meanwhile soil erosion continues to be to high, nutrient management is still too lax, cover crops are totally off most folks radar and the upsides of Roundup are totally ignored. Roundup displaced stuff like atrizine which really is hugely poisonous by comparison and highly persistent. Roundup is not perfect and has been overused which is leading to resistant weeds, but the obsession with it is totally absurd. I am frankly quite weary of all the folks gassing on about agriculture based on the shrillest complainers and calling for totally unrealistic change. We lack labor in the sector already, hoping for an organic paradise in that context is unrealistic. This is not to say there is not a lot of room for improvement, however cursing technology is not a real answer. And BTW many farmers are aware of the impact that roundup is having on the soil and are adding more trace minerals to compensate. I am also quite confident they will adapt to any problems that arise, they are a quite resilient bunch
    my $.02 from the front

    • All Professor Huber is asking for is to halt the release of alfalfa GMO’s long enough to verify what the new organism/virus? is, as he says what is the rush?

But tell you what Mark, when you have a background like Professor Huber’s and you know what you are talking about we will consider listening to you. In the mean time I think that being alarmed about what is taking place is very appropriate even getting a bit shrill to get some attention focused on this subject.

      Professor Huber’s Credentials:
For 50 years, he’s been a scientist studying plant diseases in the U.S. and around the world and spent 35 years at Purdue University as Professor Emeritus of plant pathology.
He has a 41-year military career as a retired Colonel, evaluating natural and man-made biological threats, including germ warfare and disease outbreaks.
He coordinates the “Emergent Diseases and Pathogens Committee” as part of the USDA National Plant Disease Recovery System under Homeland Security.

      Doc Blake

      • Thanks, Paul, my response to Mark was going to be along similar lines — who can beat the expertise of Don Huber?

When an expert like this is sounding an alarm, we better sit up and pay attention.

Because the USDA and EPA and FDA are ignoring the warning from such a credible scientist, we have further proof that biotech and pesticide profits are more important to the US federal government.

Once again, I agree it is a criminal cabal which we the people must bring down.

    • Moonshine Productions

I FIND YOUR COMMENT HIGHLY SUSPECT…you are obviously ‘one of them.’ We DON’T GIVE A SHIT WHAT YOU THINK…the facts are the facts and they are there in spite of the lies you are more than happy to convince yourself of. But save your breath, talk to yourself, we ARE NOT LISTENING. 13. I reise rabbits and have been wondering why the little one die two weeks before they are to be born. I HAVE NOT GONE TO YOUR SICENCE CLASS AND AM A FARMER it does not take a person long to tell that something is wrong. We are setting the world up for a FOOD SHORTAGE.

  14. Really, if people are not pissed off they are not paying attention to ALL of the information out there. Mark, it sounds to me as if you are only watching one side of the game – and as has been stated above, you cannot beat Don Huber for his knowledge base and expertise. If you are sick of people “gassing on” about Monsanto, Roundup et al., perhaps you should get into our side of the game. Just because Roundup isn’t “as bad” as atrizine STILL doesn’t make it GOOD. A lesser of evils is still evil. ‘Nuff said.

  15. I am a naturopath, veterinarian and medical intuitive. I used to own a spay and neuter clinic in Oregon and have worked in Lewiston, Idaho spaying/neutering animals for a 2-year stint. to date I’ve spayed/neutered well over 12,000 critters. In the last 4-5 years I have never seen as many animals with sexual abnormalities. In my human practice the rate of infertility is at an all-time high. I’ve been around veterinary medicine for over 30 years. On the way to what I do now I’ve exposed myself to so many chemicals that my body can no longer take them. I’ve become multiple chemical sensitive and am very sensitive to Roundup. There is definitely something to this. What really ticks me off is when people spray for weeds and THINK that just because we didn’t see them spray that we are not affected. This is TOTAL crap. The offenders do not see what a multiple chemical sensitive person goes through. Yes, it may take a few days to figure out that somebody has sprayed, but we do figure it out. Most people can’t do anything about it but suffer. Homeopathics help the detox but it takes time. Even foods that are labeled “certified organic” may not always be safe to eat for us. We need to stop using these toxic chemicals and stop contaminating our food system!

  16. This is nothing less than corporate assault on life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, an indicator that special interests and politicians have highjacked the destiny of men, women, children and families. This nation was precipitated by “…five thousand years of experience, that we cannot entrust the management of our lives to kings, priests, politicians, generals, and county commissioners.” –Edward Abbey. Our only recourse left now, to taking back our lives, is new incarnation of our Founding Fathers.

  17. @ Jackal: How about a couple dozend Founding Mothers???????? Ehhhh?

  18. Morgana, if woman had taken the initiative to risk it all to escape absolute rulers imposing the divine right of kings, then we’d be referring to our saviors as Founding Mothers! Perhaps it’s women’s turn to fix what men had fixed circa 1776. Ever since, our nation has come full circle with a ruling class that sits in board rooms, lapped in luxury, having hijacked the political process to rule in European fashion of kingly caprice, its wake a Mad Max wasteland strewn with broken children, adults and families, not mentioning unemployment and destruction of the middle class. That’s the reality. Sexism has nothing to do with it. But if the only tool one has is a hammer, then everything begins looking like a nail. So, go ahead! Show us your mettle. Maybe you will begin with the greedy women who sit in board rooms and executive offices, making decisions for profit at the expense of ruin for lives and nation. Women in the Middle East are taking protest initiatives. But then women there do not have the safety nets that are available here. Safety nets, I may add, that are at the root of runaway government spending, which has created massive passivity that has grown to enough critical mass, as though a terminal cancer. If your lord is not self-sufficiency, if you can not survive without being a hireling, if your lifestyle is void of conservation, and if you’re dependent on debt (such as a mortgage), then you’re not part of the solution but you are as doomed as the unemployed and homeless among us.

  19. @jackal: Ooooh, someone woke up today on the misogynist side of the bed huh? Let me kiss it where it hurts. Your frontal assault on women and myself seems a bit overdone, dontcha think??? Where are you writing from that women have “safety nets”? Oooohhhh, I get it, you are a Tea Partier or some such breed, right? That women who get say, Head Start for their kids are LOSERS. You’re a troll methinks. When you can have an honest conversation without venting your prejudices and your spleen, get back to me.

  20. Hmmm. Is this what blogging is about? Demeaning others? Kind of negative I think. Maybe the low-spleener needs a bunch of dark leafy greens to cleanse the liver as well!
Challenges are never solved at the level of thinking that generated the problem to begin with.

  21. Thank you Dr. Denice.

  26. The science that is supporting the current practice of
fish farming safety has been insufficient
at best. As I was riding my bike down Valencia Street, I stopped
to admire an urban garden grown by a school right
along their sidewalk. The largest proposed project is a series of
wind farms to be built in a secluded 175 square mile area in Markbygden
    in Northern Sweden.

What do YOU think?
